UCL Innovative Clinical Trials Unit

The UCL Innovative Clinical Trials Unit logo features a combination of bold text and a simple graphic. On the left, the large purple letters UCL are displayed on a white background. Next to this, a purple rectangular icon contains a white silhouette of a domed building with vertical columns. To the right of the icon, the text Innovative Clinical Trials Unit appears in purple, arranged across two lines against the white background.

The Innovative Clinical Trials Unit (InCTU) aims to answer key questions in infectious diseases and cancer, and to speed up the translation of scientific research into patient benefits.

We design and conduct clinical trials, and we combine the results of several trials that address the same disease or condition (this is called a systematic review or meta-analysis). We also carry out observational studies to assess the impact of new interventions in routine care.

Our research helps to improve healthcare in the UK and around the world.

The InCTU has about 200 staff and is currently co-ordinating approximately 60 trials and meta-analyses. It is also part of the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology in the UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences.
